Happy Thanksgiving.
This year has been a typical affair (as far as holidays of late). Had the non-unique dinner of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etcetera with a few family members. No big family gathering this year–we haven’t had one since my dad died.
After the fairly depressing meal, everyone but me wanted to go throw money away at the nearest casino. I stayed behind and played video games with my niece for a few hours before my sister picked her up. And then it was just me. Alone on Thanksgiving. It’s par for the course.
As I had nowhere to go or nothing to do, I popped in a recent DVD purchase into the DVD player: Pieces of April. It’s one of the best “quirky” movies I’ve seen in awhile. And while I enjoyed the movie, I absolutely fell in love with the soundtrack. A good, non-commercial movie centered around a Thanksgiving meal and scored by Stephin Merritt; what more could you ask for on a lonely Thanksgiving?
At least it distracted me from obsessing on how this Thanksgiving had become “just one of those days” which started with a flat tire and flat spare. But as I don’t want to dwell on it, I’ll spare you the boring details.
