Just a heads up on a band to watch out for: Via Audio. They’ve recently been signed to kill.normal.records with their first release under the label, a 6 song E.P., scheduled to be released on May 10th. As described on kill.normal.records Bands page: “Via Audio have crafted a mellow style of airy yet aggressive pop that’s reminiscent of groups like Rilo Kiley and Death Cab For Cutie.”

I was first introduced to Jessica Martins, the front-woman of Via Audio, via her first band Rising to the Bottom, a duo consisting of Martins and Sara O’Reilly. In 2001 Rising to the Bottom released their only album to date, a home grown effort entitled Too Much Philosophy which showcased the natural talent of both Martins and O’Reilly (and is still one of my current favorite albums). Soon after, Jessica Martins started working on a solo album while she attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, the place at which she would meet her future bandmates. In late 2002 Martins along with drummer Danny Molad, bassist David Lizmi, and guitarist Tom Deis formed Via Audio. As her solo career has been put on the back burner due for now, it is uncertain when Martins will release her 16-song solo album entitled “Stenograph Songs”. Luckily, you can listen to most of the songs slated to be on the yet-to-be-released album at Jessica Martins’s IUMA audio page. In the meantime we will soon have the Via Audio E.P. to enjoy.

“I don’t really care how time is reckoned so long as there is some agreement about it, but I object to being told that I am saving daylight when my reason tells me that I am doing nothing of the kind. I even object to the implication that I am wasting something valuable if I stay in bed after the sun has risen. As an admirer of moonlight I resent the bossy insistence of those who want to reduce my time for enjoying it. At the back of the Daylight Saving scheme I detect the bony, blue-fingered hand of Puritanism, eager to push people into bed earlier, and get them up earlier, to make them healthy, wealthy and wise in spite of themselves.”
